July 2015 – Tree Removal

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on N. Tropical Trail in Merritt Island, FL, just 5 miles north of the barge canal, is surrounded by magnificent live oaks, water oaks, hickory, palm and pine trees, some of them over 100 years old. Their lush presence befits our historic chapel and cemetery here in the tropical countryside. However, many of these trees were found to be near the end of their life-spans or badly diseased. Concerns about safety prompted the congregation to make the difficult decision to remove some of these graceful giants. An arborist company was hired; 11 trees were removed and many others were trimmed. St. Luke’s church grounds are once again a safe and beautiful place for our Scout troops and community events, such as the Fall Festival to benefit the Brevard Sharing Center, and Pioneer Day, held in conjunction with the historic Sams House.
